I use the purple Python cattle tags on all my hounds. Have been using for many years. Very effective. I change them every one to three months depending on intensity of pests and how much I’m running the hounds. They’re not 100% , but very very rarely find a tick gorging itself, and if do its normally dead. As for clothing I sometimes spray and pretreat to help keep ticks/fleas off. I have found the best method to rid them from your cloths , is 20 mins in a hot dryer. They all perish and will not be dropping off in the closet or waiting for you to put those hunting cloths on the next day etc. Once dead ,Most of them are exhausted out the dryer vent , and some end up in the lint screen.

 

Bravecto, its the best thing Ive found . Its a chew that they will fight for, easy to give.It comes in different sizes for different weights of dogs. I got the biggest dose ones and divided it to save money. It worked good for every dog. No side effects that I could tell.

 

Where do you buy that wad and what is the cost?

 

I ended up getting it on line out of Canada. The vet wasnt much higher but wouldnt sell me the larger doses. Not sure what company it was. This small town vet knows me and my dogs

 

I heard that chewable stuff is good. I use the bio spot type stuff. If a dog weighs say 15 pounds I'll get the 30 lb stuff and split it so I get more for the money. Seems to work. I also hit em w Adams flea and tick spray.

 

I like using the Seresto flea and tick collars work really great for me have had no problems. I buy the one for large dogs so I can get 2 out of it. Gets me by spring, summer, Fall. Then will start over in spring.

 

I use scalibor collars, have had good luck with them. eBay. Permethrin-10, mixed with water works real good for tics.
