What does everybody do to keep their hounds flea and tick free when out hunting. It seems that some rabbits out here are littered with them. I use monthly flea and tick repellent, I was once told do the monthly flea and tick prevention and get a flea and tick collar as well, anybody have some insight? I know they like warm areas like inside the ears. Also what do you use when you get back from hunting to treat your own gear? I store my hunting gear in a closet in my house that's stuffed with other coats and jackets. Having them get loose in my house would be devastating.

I use the purple Python cattle tags on all my hounds. Have been using for many years. Very effective. I change them every one to three months depending on intensity of pests and how much I’m running the hounds. They’re not 100% , but very very rarely find a tick gorging itself, and if do its normally dead. As for clothing I sometimes spray and pretreat to help keep ticks/fleas off. I have found the best method to rid them from your cloths , is 20 mins in a hot dryer. They all perish and will not be dropping off in the closet or waiting for you to put those hunting cloths on the next day etc. Once dead ,Most of them are exhausted out the dryer vent , and some end up in the lint screen.

Bravecto, its the best thing Ive found . Its a chew that they will fight for, easy to give.It comes in different sizes for different weights of dogs. I got the biggest dose ones and divided it to save money. It worked good for every dog. No side effects that I could tell.
