Nice reply! I like it! Weir Creek Hounds are some of the best grit gettin' hardcore all day hunters I have ever seen. They are the foundation of my breeding program. If I one that I didn't like, it would be the way that the ones I have eat. If I do not put water with their food, they will huff it down and choke it up. My best hound, Jenny lost her life asperating dog food. Not saying they are all this way, but the ones I have are.

Yes I have seen some bad weircreeks. There are culls in every bloodline. I have seen several have sugar fits. I have seen them have cherry eyes. I have seen them rather run a deer than a rabbit. Saying all this, I have seen some hunt all day and still want to run after 4 hours. I have seen some run a rabbit so hard and straight that my jaw dropped.

I had weir creeks for years.loved their hunt, quite in the kennel could run a rabbit really well, but everyone would run deer no matter how many times i shocked them off deer.not trying to upset anyone just my dealings with them.sold all of them in 05,guy was told they would leave a rabbit track and run deer, started over and am happy with what i have now.had weir creeks from top performing arha pp dogs from the 90's.again not trying to upset anybody just my dealings with them.

Hey Chris, I see you are from West Tn. I don't know if you are interested i attending any AKC trials, but we have formed an AKC club in Ripley and would love to have you attend. We are scheduling a UBGF derby qualifying trial on April 1, this is a one day hunt on a Friday. If you think you may be interested you can contact me at 731-460-0656. Jason Byrd

I think the off-Game issue can be said of any bloodline. Right conditions and I guarantee a beagle will run it. It is in their blood to trail scent. No rabbits? Guess what, your trash proof hound is going to surprize you. Given long enough in an are without rabbits, they are going to run what they find.
Not to say anyone has bad hounds, but just what I have seen in my short 15 year involvement with these merry little hounds.

Ill second that notion to a degree... i have owned a few that just flat out wouldnt do it and ive had a few that couldnt do it.... it takes a good nose to scent track a deer... with that said i dont trust any dog. if u aint got no rabbits up in an hour the beads of sweat come pouring out when u hear one of them dogs fire up near a woodline..lmao and with that said i even have owned some that would cold track a deer to there bed jump em then run em.... u really got to love rabbit hunting and love them hounds to chase a pack a dogs threw the crap weve all chased them threw for miles.. then get up and go the next day:banghead:

We already know all or have heard of the good, positive and outstanding traits of this line. With that said.....

Besides running deer and the other normal hound faults the most repeatable fault I have experienced with starting litters of Weir Creek pups was.....

(1) running a line backwards on a (hard check) like they were tied to the rabbit. They would turn around and just drive it right back to the jump like they were looking at it pretty as you please.

(2) laying fales lines or Ghost trailing (due to pack pressure) when they lost contact with the line.

Some overcame these faults with time but many that showed it never comletely did just like common faults in all other lines of hounds. The Weir Creek hounds I started seemed to show these (2) faults more then any other.

Like any other line though the GOOD ONES were good. True mouth, big nose, tuff as nails and were dead game rabbit killers. No doubt about it.

I would love to own another good, big nose, close in check area, clean, tight, medium speed, hard hunting, line straddeling, up the middle real Weir Creek hound to cross on my good line bred Mile Branch Sammy males. Shucks if it had a big nose and hunted hard enough it could even be a little on the slow side.

I've looked at and judged a few pretty good ones that are still around but they move around a little too much for me when under pressure of outstanding pack mates. I would love to have a good, smooth Weir Creek bitch that will line up.

Wish I could find a nice little smooth bitch bred like FC Templet's Rio's sire Double Creek Bo Bo.

Weir Creeks

http://www.akcweircreekbeagles.com/1.html All the pictures and pedigree you want to look at. Come watch them run!! Can't say enough about them. They never guit on a rabbit! They won't run deer , back track or cold trail. Once in a blue moon I will have a fox race.(about every 2-3 years)

I run dogs year round, hunt a lot, trial a little. Been doggin for 18yrs and I can honestly say the dogs I have now are the best I've had and about the best I have personally seen. I have made some good breedings and the results couldn't be better. Weir Creek blood is the backbone of the dogs I run and will never leave!!!

Here's a few hunts from this year. All dogs pictured are heavily bred Weir Creek

Back in the early 90's I was able to hunt with "Chuck's Little Sal" and "Chuck's Red Sammy". Sal was half Weir Creek and Sammy was triple bred "Mile Branch Sammy". Hunting with those style dogs made me realize what a rabbit dog should be. Several years later I was able to acquire littermates "Woodside's Sweet Lil Candy" and "Winstead's Jasper". After making an exceptional outcross and then breeding those back to Weir Creek I am getting dogs of the same caliber as Sal and Sammy.

Boy Lance no wonder you kill all them rabbits.

I don't have to see em to know Your dogs HUNT and can RUN!!!

You got mostly all our old blood from down here.

I run all tight bred Mile Branch Sammy dogs. Some have 20 crosses or so.

Man, No wonder you love them! They can flat out pound can't they!

You can kill every rabbit in the woods with those hounds.

I would still like to have that white faced one bro!

Mitch
