Hey Guys and Gals
I know this is a beagle forum, but many of us have pets other than beagles, so I
just wanted to share to be careful with Zimecterine Gold wormer. I’m not convinced my Jack Russell is going to make it after giving her just a pea size amount. Come to find out collie dogs and like dogs, and Jack Russell’s have major toxic poisoning issues with it. I typically rotate my wormer from Safeguard, to Z-mec or Ivermectin for my beagles and Mt Feist but never give my Jack anything but Safeguard.

My mistake, and totally regret, but just wanted to give everyone a heads up. Be Careful!!

Yes, lots of dogs cant have that Ivomec. One of my farm dogs is a healer, he cant have any or our rat terrier. I only give the hounds Ivomec or anything with Ivomec in it and they dont get much.

Hope your dog is OK.
Man I didn’t know that about the heelers we got 2 and I use the paste wormer on them every time I do my beagles one is 10-11 the other is 2 it’s never bothered them. Just always done them the same way. I may have just got lucky don’t know.

Thanks Men for the comments. She’s eating and using the bathroom, and not quite as wobbly, but she still doesn’t seem to be able to see. I sure hope she gets it out of her system and not have any long term effects.

Circle, from what I was told it’s just the Zimecterine Gold, but I don’t know for sure. I always use Safeguard on my Jack Russell, and just didn’t think twice about it when I rotated my monthly wormer.

I wouldn't change up, tough lesson to learn stay with what works.
I hope she makes it.
Get the rice and hamburger ready and make sure she is hydrated.
Did you take her to the Vet? Might have an antidote? JMO

K I get mine from Jeffers just order the ivermectin paste horse wormer. The Jeffers brand that’s what we worm our horses with so I buy a bunch and get enough to do dogs all year also. It works for us and easy to keep up with.

Hey Foxes85, I called my vet and he, his daughter and her husband who are all vets, stated there is no antidote or reversal of ivermectin toxicity poisoning. It takes 36 to 48 hours to work through most animals systems, and in the case of the smaller Jack Russell potentially longer, and you pray non of the symptoms are long lasting. Thank You for the input though!!

Nature will take care of moving the wormer out of your Jack Russells system. I sure hope she’s gets better without after effects. Jack Russells are great dogs. A friend had a coarse coated male, he was a raccoon killing machine send him in to bales of stacked hay and put the hammer on the racoon. Keep us updated with her progress.

Thank You Foxes85! She is getting a little age on her, but before this incident she was still a pure killer. She has killed and pulled possums and racoons bigger than herself out of log piles, and was pure death on rats and mice. She’s only 10-14 lbs, but if she had been a big dog, I don’t know what she would’ve jumped on.
