Just to be clear, the new UKC Gundog format is be closest to DSBGF and UBGF sancioned SPO. The format is identical to how we do SPO trials in the AKC trials.

But if you are running SPO in Midsouth and Midwest SPO federations, you are running a dog with a little more foot. The UKC Hunting Beagle format may be closest to the type of dog you are running. In Hunting Beagle, dogs are not judged on line control but rather on who picks up the check, who strikes the rabbit first, and who is leading on return to the gun. The hunter is also judged. Hope this helps.

Blake I will be honest I have never been to a UKC trial. When the new Gundog format came out, I called the head of field operations for the UKC to get some clarification on what it was. I had a nice long discussion with him regarding the different UKC formats and how they compare to AKC SPO/GDB etc. He explained to me the differences between the formats. I posted the results of that phone call on this site. Here is a link to it:

Somebody who runs UKC Hunting Beagle format could probably tell you how they "judge the hunter." I think it has to do with how they handle their dog and get their dog to hunt, etc.
