The Black Mountain whelping nest has new features and better heating technology. There are no cold or hot spots on the nest now and the thermostat is all digital. Better sealed and should warranty issues arise, the parts to replace are much simpler.

The lovetts nest toward the end were shipping for $299 - so the Black Mountain Whelping Nest one isn't too much more with better heating and thermostat.

This is the label on the bottom. It’s hard plastic and is approximately 18”x24”. Worked great for pups I had during cold weather. Like I said, I got it at TSC for about $39.00.

Brewer69, it is hard plastic and gets warm only when pressure is applied. I personally do not see any way it could catch fire or get too hot short of a malfunction in the electrical. But mine looks very well made, and my pups did great on it.

The one at Lions Country Supply looks identical to the one I have from TSC, but is more expensive than what I paid at TSC. Even so, I highly recommend!! I wouldn’t count on the “lamb skin” cover that comes with the unit being much good and lasting with pups. JMO

There are two nests. You can see both at Okie Dog Supply. Black Mountain is for small to medium dogs and is one piece molded rubber. The other is made of a slicker plastic and is much larger for large to xl size dogs.
The Black Mountain Whelping nest is even heating across the nest and helps pups not slide around so they can nurse longer and it actually helps them grip so you see muscle development a little faster. It’s really pretty cool. The thermostat is digital and easy to use.

here is the link on the Okie dog website. Black Mountain Heated Whelping Nest - Next Generation - For Small to Medium Dogs
