Tomorrow starts the Indiana youth turkey weekend. Im taking my 7 year old boy on his first hunt where he will behind the gun. We've been practicing with the Caldwell field pod and I am blown away with how good of a shot he is. I've been making him handle and aim and control the safety by himself to prove that he is ready and he is ready ladies and gentlemen. Im so excited!!!!!!! As soon as we found out we were having a boy I've been thinking of this day and tomorrow it will be here. Just need a tom or Jake to play the game with us
Spanky, that is awesome!! Enjoy every minute and make wonderful memories!! I’ll throw an extra prayer that GOD will smile down on you both and Bless you with a great bird!! I remember my son’s first, and he’ll be 27 this Sunday.
Guys I appreciate it. I all my first hunts. My first deer hunt at 11, first rabbit at 12, and first turkey at 19. My dad and father in law are going along too. Trying to hide all 4 of us and have a great time and there will for sure be pictures when he gets one
Spanky that’s awesome!! I remember the first hunts with my son some 36 years ago. I am truly blessed as He is still my hunting buddy. Enjoy each minute you have with him as time flies by. Wish you the best tomorrow!
My nephew got a good one with me this morning. He came in gobbling behind us and eventually made the mistake of crossing into the field we were sitting in. 24 pounds with some nice spurs.
After my nephew got home he took his son for an evening hunt. He already killed a jake during the youth season a couple weeks ago and said he wanted a longbeard. They set down on the edge of a field and had this big boy come slipping in on them. I told him he was probably the first person legally tagged out in Kentucky. This boy is gonna carry on the tradition!
Well guys we had a text book hunt this morning. We had 3 deer come into our turkey decoys and one of them had about 2 inch nubbins. The tom finally flew down about 180 yds away and made a v-line right for our setup. He was strutting and gobbling the whole way and my son was sitting in my lap shaking. Once he got to the decoys we had to wait for him to turn before I could get the boy up on the gun. The bird gobbled 3 times in our faces and sent shivers down my sons back (he was sitting on my lap). We finally got our chance to shoot and he missed at 12yds.....it was fantastic except for the miss though. The smile on his face and feeling him shake like that was priceless
