I saw that on TV last night. He was also a professional baseball player, pitcher. He was well known and highly respected in country music. Also the first black man to be voted into the country music hall of fame. He opened some doors for others but not many took the step.

My mother loved him. She would listen to WSM Radio and the Opry. She bought one of his albums. She had no idea he was Black and did not care.

Man, a lot of country singers gone in the last few years. Won’t be long, all the real country guys and gals will be gone. I can’t handle this new stuff. Most of it sounds the same to me and it ain’t country .
