These dogs are wore out and so am I.
Yesterday morning I met up with a buddy that I've been trying to get together with for 2 years. He told me he had a place that was loaded with rabbits...
And he wasn't lying!!!
When we pulled up to the farm we saw an owl fly off. As we figured the rabbits were sitting tight. After a few minutes my buddies little female stuck her nose in a brush pile and out popped a rabbit. She came out of there chomping at his hind end! The other 3 dogs rushed in and the race was on. For the next 4 hours it was constant running and gunning. We all made some tough shots and missed some easy ones. The dogs did absolutely amazing especially considering they had never run together.
By the time we got back to the truck all 3 of us had killed our limit (12 total) and jumped 4 more walking out.
Then we turned around today an met up with Stoney to go run some woods rabbits. Had a couple good races, one lasted over an hour with hardly a pause the whole time. Up and down the ridge he went, always one step ahead of us. Finally he popped out in front of our buddy but he didn't connect. That shot sent the rabbit back over the next ridge and down into the holler then back up the other side. I tried to beat him to a path as he came back down the hill but again he beat me to it. We tried catching the dogs as they came through but they was too hot on the trail. Back up to the top of the ridge they went. If it wouldn't have been for the Kubota we never would have got back in front of the dogs. It was a wild end to a crazy weekend!
Poor ol Sis was so tired she didn't even want to get out of the truck when we got home.
I let Star and Sky chew on one of the rabbits for a while when we got home. I can't wait to start gunning over them next year!
