It's only a little over 6 months away from the hunt so I figured we better get the ball rolling. We have been trying to work with some of the different beagle federations to see if we could use their grounds for the weekend. UBGF was the only one that would even really hear us out. They said we could run 4 dogs at a time and couldn't use the clubhouse after dark. Not very hospitable to say the least.
So that leads us to our first order of business. Would anyone be willing to host the event? We would need a banquet hall for 50 - 75 people to congregate and eat. Nearby lodging and enough ground to run up to 100 dogs for the weekend. Please let me know if this would be something you would be interested in helping with. Mr. Johnson has already said Rabbit Run is ours any time if we can't find anywhere else.
Next thing on the docket... After trying to contact the Mid South about the donation for several months without so much as a call back we have been looking at other options.
I believe we have settled on this... We will do a junior handler of the month. Kids will be able to send in a short essay about what they like about beagling. We can send them a plaque and a couple hundred dollars to help them with dog food, saving for a car, college or whatever they decide. This will be alot more personal than sending a check to a Federation and hoping the money gets used in the right way. I can think of several young men and women on this site that should be honored for the work they do to continue our sport.
After some small issues with our previous raffles we have decided to keep it simple this year and just raffle one or 2 big prizes. If we could get a gun or rabbit hunt donated it would be a huge help to the club. We would also like to give out some nice door prizes to members that attend the hunt.
We are looking forward to another great turnout this year and look forward to seeing everyone.
Any questions feel free to ask.
