Mitch: I have not seen them run, except for New City Tammy, who was the foundation bitch for John New. She was all Northwood's. I think maybe John got her from Sherrill Miller in Indiana. Tammy was the granddam of FCs. Indian Hills Majer and New City Cruiser. I remember Tammy was an aggressive running hound. She was dark, with a heavy coat.

Not many would remember the Northwood's kennel. The owner/breeder was C.C. Warren from Chassell, Michigan. He bred from the 1940s until the 1980s. Claimed his hounds were "bred to hunt", and that he only bred from hounds who were top gundogs on sod or snow.

FC. Northwood's Nubian Queen was half brace ( Wilcliffe Bannister and Pageline Parson) and about half hare breeding.

Don't know Northwood's Snowflake Queen, but would guess she was by FC. Lakeside Snowflake (Mt. Zion Pete)?

Northwood's Ginger II was by FC. J-Wal of Roxline (hare) and out of FC. Northwood's Nubian Queen.

Good stuff. Came from the days just after the hare breeders split off from the brace breeders, so you see a little of both in Mr. Warren's pedigrees. To me, this means they ran with more control than some of the more modern hare hounds who did not have the old brace influence as close.

I never saw them run and it would have been a long time ago if anyone did see them but they show up a ton way back in some of my pedigrees. The cross of Dagwood's Labaan and Baronet Darkness show up over 50 times in some of my pedigrees. A lot of Mount Zion Pete and Leitza's Daisy.
In mine too! I get Northwood's through New City, Northway, and Reffett's.

What do you personally know from seeing them run. Anyone?

Northwood's Nubian Queen

Northwood's Snowflake Queen

Northwood's Ginger II

Or

The hounds behind them...….Good ..Bad or Ugly

Thanks
Mitch, I never saw any of these dogs run, but they were in many of the early SPO dogs. Some of these go back to the 1940's in the 4th. generation. Most were a cross between Hare Hounds (speed dogs) and brace dogs.

Thank you for all your valuable information as I too have studied the hounds mentioned above pedigrees for years as far back as recorded. Some of them to the 1800's.

Thank you Mr. John for posting the pedigreed for us all to see.

Mile Branch Sammy's Dam...." Mile Branch Sadie"..... her sire Harvard's Moby Dick ….his mother was Northwood's Ginger II....The dogs I run...have this in them a lot at my house in the back of them.

I do know that Mile Branch Sadie is out of Harvard's Moby Dick and Hale's Sudie. I do know that Harvard's Moby Dick was from ( Tommy Lawrence )...out of..Tommy's Tuck and Northwood's Ginger II. I do know that Hale's Sudie was out of Tommy's Rip and Tommy's Dot but I have access to nothing behind that.

I know how she ran from the breeder telling me and was just looking for any and all other Eye witnesses info to the old hounds behind them if any left alive.

Mr. John can you post a pedigree for "Mile Branch Sadie" please sir. That would be a great help.

Thanks again everyone and please keep it coming if something or someone comes to mind.

Mitch

Mitch, if you look up the pedigree for FC Townline's Johnny Paycheck, he had some line breeding using Nubian Queen and some of the dogs from her pedigree. He was known for producing dogs with lots of hunt and grit. He shows up a lot in my pedigrees. The dogs I have seen from this type of breeding do not have the line control that you want, but they are tough. I have some that will go over 20 miles in a day and be ready to go again the next day. I run them on hare and cottontail and one of these days I am going to take them somewhere to run swamp rabbits.
