You got it man. I went through that for years. They never were, imo, as good as advertised. Breed your best bitch to the best stud you know, keep the entire litter and start culling.
Even after I figured it out, each time a read about those internet champions, I'd get itchy to get some of that. Then, I'd come to my senses.
Example: Several years ago a local guy, Clint, bought a Hare Bred male from New York. The hype was so great I bred a bitch to him. Then Clint grew tired of the dog, deer chaser, advertised him and a guy drove down from up North and bought him. My bitch had five pups. I gave one for stud fee and started the others, By the time they were a year old I had "culled" all mine. Clint, who had moved out of state, was kinda proud of his and wanted me to keep it and give my opinion. I ran him a few times, Ugh! Clint called and wanted to know about his pup. Ah, he's Ok. Then I ran him some more. He was down with a couple of other dogs and the rabbit ran across my back lawn. Ha! Now is my chance. I caught the other two and immediately the Pup was lost. He finally found the line and ran it backwards. I was pissed, so I called and told Clint, IMO, your pup is worthless.
Clint advertised on line an immediately some guy drove down from W.V. and bought him.
A couple years later I was scanning Kennel owners Web Pages, that were advertising stud service, and pups for sale. I saw a male being advertised for Stud. I looked at his pedigree and was surprised that someone had a dog out of one of my bitches. I don't sell many dogs . Then I recognized the Pup, the guy was advertising.
One man's Treasure is another beaglers trash.
I've bought enough of the Trash.
