Ive never measured my dogs, thinking they are 14in, few friends said they look 13 in just wondering where exactly do you measure? front shoulder? up to back above shoulder? It solely just out of curiosity my "meatballs" are just hunting beagles not Field trialers lol

Measure at the shoulders. The art of correct measuring is how the dog poses. Getting them to stand straight up and be still is often very difficult. When I go to a trial I spend more time just watching how the judges measure. Try it sometimes and I think you will find that measuring is the worst part of trialing. However, I will say that a good hound will perform well in whatever measured class it is put in. I would also like to add that in a lot of cases, the judges work hard at trying to get an accurate measurement.

Dog should be standing naturally,
Mack is right. "Naturally"

A trip to help them stand naturally is to put one hand on their crotch between their back legs (enter from the back) and one hand on their chest between their front legs (enter from the front). Pick them straight up and set them straight down. Then the measuring stand should be dropped directly on their shoulder blades (withers).
