Jeffro- is your pen in a good cottontail area? you could get one way traps that catch rabbits, if in the trap, you check it and let it into your pen. Works good during breeding season as bucks and even does smell rabbits in your pen and they want in. JAT

Hey Jeffro

Set some seasoned rabbit boxes ( I season mine by spraying with Pete Richards Rabbit Urine) or even better set some Cheesewheel Traps, and you will catch plenty for your pen. That is, as long as you set them where some rabbits are. Good time of the year for Rabbit Boxes with the door facing SE, S, or SW, and you can catch them anytime with the ole' Cheesewheel with a half a Yellow Delicious Apple.

I’m also currently trying to catch some rabbits for my pen and wondering what the direction of the door has to do with catching? I’m new at trapping and didn’t realize it made a difference which could explain the reason I’m not catching in my boxes and only my cheese wheels. Lol

JB, God only knows the total reason ....lol. However, from past experiences I agree with Grizzly Creek. I was taught by a seasoned trapper rabbits are much like humans when it comes to getting out of messy weather. Rabbits like humans will find a shelter out of the rain and a cold wind, which typically comes from the North. Rabbits go to the Cheesewheel trap for food so it doesn’t matter, but they go to a box trap to either get out of the weather or because they smell another rabbit. Because rabbits are extremely territorial, if you spray rabbit urine on/in or put rabbit turds in the box, if there is one around, it is going to investigate. You can pick up rabbit turds while hunting and put in a ziplock bag, and you can buy rabbit urine online unless you know someone who has pet rabbits, and if so make you a catch pan and collect their excretions.

Gonna start running about 10 cheese wheel traps and a half dozen boxes so maybe it wont take too long
