My female Bell has always bled from her tail while hunting but it’s gotten worse to the point of causing her a lot of pain while pulling a 8-10 hour hunt. She is almost 3 years old. Is it too late to band/dock her tail. Please explain how to do so if it’s not.

Get you a bag of castration bands from tractor supply.

Find a knuckle( should feel like a dip between two bumps in the tail bone )right below the problem area. Slide the band on to the knuckle..
Make sure you get it in that dip..

Circle told me how to take a PVC pipe and use it to get the band on the tail...
Think it was a 1 inch pipe about 5 inches long... I cut the end of it at an angle to slide the band on and off..

My dogs tail is roughly 6.5 to 7 inches now...I knocked off a good 2.5 to 3 inches... right below the tore up bloody part.

Hope this helps

I’ve not done one that old but see no issue with it mine was about 18 months so he had a full grown tail and it couldn’t be any easier.
It wasn’t my idea but someone posted instructions that I followed . I clipped hair where I wanted it , took a piece of 1in pvc cut an angle on 1 end to roll band up on it , slid over tail and rolled band off the other end between joints. She’ll probably chew at it for a few minutes then won’t even notice it.
And like Marshall said brand new dog after that . All of mine have bloody tails but don’t seem as bad as his was , when he got to point he had to stop and chew on it ever so often it had to go

I did my 3 of my Blackcreek females when they were around 2 years old and like the other Marshall said it improved their comfort level greatly . They would get so bloody on their sides that it would look like they had been shot and 1 of them would stop and lick her tail all day . I do all of my Blackcreek dogs when they are puppies now unless they are going to a pet home . It took about 14 days for mine to fall off .

I ran mine the whole time actually the last one I did fell off in my dog box.Just cut the hair back about and 1-1/2” and roll the band until it settles in a joint and they want even notice it in an hour. I’ve done it probably 100 times for different people on boxers ,beagles ,cur blue healers fiest we even done coyotes before we put them in a running pen.
