I've been following this forum for a month now and ready to come out of the shadows. I've already learned so much by reading y'all's posts. I am an elementary school teacher in a little suburb of Fort Worth, TX (Burleson) and a fly fishing guide in Montana and Idaho during the summer. I’m an avid bird hunter with a decent bird dog I trained myself. Over Christmas break I decided see what our family pet, a beagle could do on a rabbit track. I learned from this forum to stick with it. Within about ten days she was opening up on a rabbit and I was hooked! Since then she has ran a rabbit in a full circle. She is struggling with her checks but we'll stick with it. Anybody else from down around my part of the state?

Fly, welcome aboard!!!! Yes, Beagles are addictive !!!!! Sounds like yours is well on its way!!! New Beaglers are always welcome. It seems the sport of Beagling is not interesting to the youngsters these days. Since I was 10 years old I had my own Beagles, but before my Dad or Grandfather had to secretly leave home to go hunting, as I cried to go with them. My grandfather showed me how to shoot his 22 Cal. single Shot Remington Rifle using rat shot when I was about 8 years old. He would take me with him when he was hunting along and thought me gun safety. To his surprise I killed a rabbit on one of these trips with him. He felt safe allowing me to carry the rifle with the rat shot. Rat shot spreads and doesn't travel very far. By the time I was 10 he felt I was old enough for a shotgun. For Christmas I got a 20 gauge Stevens Bold Action and a pair of Male Beagle Pups. We lived on a 400 acre farm with about half of it in swamps and woodlands. I was allowed to take my Beagles and Carry my shotgun with me as long as I was alone or with my Dad or Grandfather and stayed on the Farm Property. Soon my Beagles were running and became very good rabbit dogs and I was bringing game home. I was hooked. Heck, instead of being like most teenage boys in my area and school that were interested in girls, I was chasing rabbits every chance I had. But once I turned around 20, I had dated a few times, but when I met the girl I married I was hooked on another sport !!!!! I still hunted, Started Field Trialing a little around 1978 Raised a family of two boys and a daughter. Unfortunately my sons were not interested in hunting. My Daughter loved just about anything I did, but was also a girly girl also !!!! I bought my sons guns, ATV's you name it to try to get them interested, but they never became hunters. The love guns and shooting though.

Sorry for Babbling in just giving you a BIG WELCOME!!!! If I would be a Babbling Beagle at a Field Trial I would of gotten picked up quick!!! LOL!!!
