I switched dog food today . I didn’t like the loose stools . I was feeding Diamond Chicken & Rice all life stages . I switched to Victor High Energy ( red bag ) . I haven’t feed it yet and will gradually switch them and see if their stools firm up . When I was feeding Pro Plan Sport , you could pick it up with your hand , but at $84 dollars for 50 # it just got to expensive for me .
Victor feeds well, I switched to black bag 30/20 ValuPak last summer ( 50lb verses 40lb less money) and they did so good on it Ive stayed with it. Victor Red or teal bags feed good tho.
I’m new on here but I have been checking it out everyday. I enjoy seeing the different rabbit dogs for sale & hearing opinions & advice. Just wanted to say ValuPak is a good feed. I’ve been feeding it for a while, dogs do good on it. Price isn’t bad either.
God is good!
JOY dog food is reborn----they went thru a bad period but since new mgt several years ago they are producing the best feed i have found-----at a price the average houndsman can afford
Was always doing PP 30/20 and tried most others in the past but nothing fed as well. Going to try nutrisource super perf next as I love their small puppy. Have access at distributor nearby for 47 / 40lb bag. We will see.
midwest Greyhound supply just quoted 60. /37.5 on pp 30/20 delivered to doorstep in 30 bag min. If the nutrisource isnt an equal i'll prob suck it up and pay it. PP so overpriced
You will be happy with Victor. Been feeding it for years with the exception of a 8 month period when I decided to try something else. I feed the multi-pro yellow bag in summer and red bag or teal hunting season till spring. Yellow is 22/10 and is cheaper.
I buy from TSC and get 5% off with their credit card.
Mine do good on the victor red bag. I was also going to switch to the yellow bag at the start of the summer but for whatever reason my male had loose stools with it. Swapped back to the red bag and he was back to normal . Just been feeding a little light until I start running more often
I love Victor red bag 24/20. Very firm stool with low waste and odor. I've been feeding it for 2 years but the price just jumped to 52 dollars for 40 pounds.
I feed the purple bag 26/18 in warm months. Red bag 24/20 in fall and winter. Healthy dogs and easy clean up. Don't notice any change or adjustment period in the transition to Red, Purple, Red, etc..
I changed from diamond naturals and went to wholesomes pretty much same price, about 1.00 lb, 26/14, stools are even less and solid JSB I do the same, I use TSC card get alot of rebates and cash back
I fed pro plan for years and absolutely loved it dogs did great on it but i cannot afford $70-80 a bag when i first started feeding it i was paying $36 per bag i switched to victor last year and the dogs are doing really good on it i feed the purple bag right now during off season and switch to high pro teal bag during hunting season.
I might have made a mistake getting the red bag because one of my dogs is a little overweight . I will have to keep a watch on his weight and how much that I am feeding . But what I am feeding on has more calories per cup and more protein , just not as much fat .
Calories per cup : 421 vs 412
Protein : 26 vs 24
Fat : 16 vs 20
Marshall I agree pp has gotten to pricey. Have used it for decades and didn't want to switch. Decided it's time to switch. I was considering diamond but after reading this and other dog food threads. I'm thinking it's time to try victor
I've fed pro plan for many years and with the price increases, decided to try Inukshuk for about the same price per pound online to see if may be worth the switch and look at buying in bulk. I've been using it for a few that are running frequently and they're doing well with it so far, anxious to see how they hold up on it during the cold months.
Was also feeling pp 30/20 until the price got crazy, Decided on Victor plus 30/20. As good as pp for a lot less. got an email from purina that they increased the points when your a pro club member. For me not worth the aggravation of sending in receipts. I wish they’re price was more competitive because they do a lot to promote sporting dog events.
I feed Victor Senior Healthy Weight in the off season and Victor Ultra Pro during hunting season....dogs look great and have the energy when they need it!
I feed my Weir Creeks Victor Senior Healthy Weight in the off season and Victor Ultra Pro during hunting season and dogs look great and have a ton of energy when they need it...a cup and 3/4 at night time...good food use way less so the price kinda equals itself out....
I am happy with the dogs stools now . It might be firmer than ProPlan. I have been gradually mixing it with their old feed for 2 weeks now . I am almost out of their old feed and mixing in just about 25% now . They will probably be totally switched over by Friday . It makes cleaning the kennels a lot easier , especially since I have 2 on gravel . This is from the dog that use to have poop that I couldn’t hardly shovel up .
Joy 26/18 went from 42 dollars a bag I bought last week to 52 dollar a bag week later. I can get Black Gold for 32 dollars plus tax. has anyone else feed Black Gold and how is it

Tried it a few years back and my dogs had runny stool.
