Marshall stay after them yotes!! Arky and I went to some private ground today, best cover I have seen in a long time surrounded by cut bean and wheat fields/ new wheat planted. No rabbit pellets, sign anywhere and coyote hair turds everywhere! Made us sick. Farmer said when they cut rabbits were everywhere! That’s what happens when no predator control.

Invertebrate Insect Soil Pest Arthropod
I am running the dogs this morning and saw some real fresh coyote poop . I need to get these things gone . I think they got one of my house rabbits ( I call them ) they didn’t jump it today where they usually jump this one and I walk them all through there . I saw this really fresh poop and a older one . It was still a little warm and wet .

I have to kill it , I am having dreams about them now . Last night I was killing them all night in my dreams . I could wake up and go back to sleep and dream about them again.

I used to have German Shepherds , my dream started with me sitting out on my deck and a coyote was on the deck of the neighbors house . I let my female GSD out and she ran it down and killed it . Then we saw another one walking down the road , it was bigger . She was having a hard time with that one , so I turned my male GSD out and he just about killed it and I finished it with my shotgun . After that we would just see them in the field and shoot them with the shotgun . I think we killed 4 .

Dreams are crazy , because I can’t see my neighbors house from mine and I haven’t had a German Shepherd in about 15 years . Kind of wish that one was real though .

I am setting back in the field behind my house now . That is not far from where I saw the fresh scat . I also talked to the wildlife officer ( really nice guy , different from last year ) and he gave a predator hunter my number and said that he sounded real excited about hunting here . I have also been looking at trapping , but I am worried about catching one of my dogs . I just don’t know if a beagle will set off a 3 lb trap . It needs more thought .

First new traps need to be cleaned first. And then do your adjustments, add earth anchors if using. Now would be the time to increase pan tension.
Some people pressure wash to degrease them, then leave out and/or spray with vinegar to create a coat of rust.
I soak mine in muriatic acid then boil clean. I let them sit out a few days before I boil them in log wood die and then I wax them.
You can also get a dip versus dying. Then you clean and dip, easy enough. Still should wax.
It’s all basically about scent control.
Then never touch with bare hands or dirty gloves.
One thing to remember is when trapping coyote, you are usually making a set of some sort, and the trap is set in a position to catch a coyote that stops to sniff the scent or dig up bait. Getting them to step on a two inch square pan is the challenge. I don’t worry about my hounds just stopping to smell coyote lure. Plus I know I can get them in time. I don’t feel its too dangerous.

Yes, great trap out of the box. Nice thick jaws no need to laminate. But even with the 550, you still have to file the dog and ensure the pan lays flat when set. The parts are stamped metal so there will be minor “cleanup”.
Plus by adjustments I like to either file in night latch or shorten the dog. This minimizes pan travel.
But if you are not interested in that stuff there is always the dog less trap. They are sweet and easy to set. Check them out.
I like 4 spring traps for the extra holding power but mainly for the strength to bust out of the ground and make a catch.
