Do any of you use Ivermectin sheep Drench for your dogs heartworm prevention?

No never have and probably won’t, I use the Hog Wormer in the bottle. Been using it for over 25 years. JMO

I’ve used Ivomec for years no problems clean Bill health on my dogs never had heart worm problem I even give it during winter months keep’em on it all year long

Cattle only. Got my dilution down. Too cheap and easy the way I do it. Afraid if I change anything I might hurt one of them. It’s some potent stuff.

Question on this, will this get rid of them or only use if you know they dont have them ONLY as a prevention?

Should get rid of the microfilia and worms over time, should use during mosquito season or year round as a preventative. JMO

I have always used Ivomec that I get from my vet. He mixes at two dilution rates so the dosage is one cc per 22 lbs or one cc per 44 lbs. four ounce bottle is twenty dollars and lasts me two months. Cheap enough and I have never had a heartworm problem.

12 gauge just had a male who had been on ivomec once a month test positive for heart worms the worm has built up a resistance to ivomec so they are recommending use it every 21 days and we are doing it twice a month instead.

There are several possible causes for dog positive for heartworms. Resistance is a possibility however there is not much conclusive research data so far (see american heartworm society ). It is hard to know cause without more history. Two common factors related to positive heartworm cases are: inconsistent administration of preventive medications (missing a treatment) and long latent period for development of worms.
