I was asked by my Buddy if I was willing to help an 8 year old and his dad while he worked with a 10 year old.
I was more than happy. We took them to our best spot. The boys slung some lead. The hounds did great.
It started out slow with the rabbits not wanting to cooperate but eventually they started to run.
I was impressed with the boy when the pack chased a rabbit right at him, I told him “No Shooting” because dogs were right behind the rabbit. He had great presence of mind not to shoot.
We ended up running 18 and they killed 4 rabbits. The one boy fell in love with my little red. He wanted to trade his gun for it, I told him without a gun he couldn’t kill a rabbit. His reply was perfect, I don’t care I like to listen to them dogs chase a rabbit. I think he is hooked and he will be a future beagler.
Perfect day introducing boys to our sport.

Thanks everyone! It is a great feeling seeing these boys so excited! Very rewarding!
As for the cleaning, yes. We showed them how to skin, quarter and clean up. Each boy took two cleaned rabbits home to feed their family.
One boy runs a trap line with his grandpa and I run a trap. He took half the leftovers for coyote bait and I took the others for my trap line. Nothing went to waste. I hope we catch a couple coyote or Bobcat with them
