When you put hay or straw in the doghouse for cold weather what maintenance or frequency do you change or otherwise check on quality? Thanks for your input and comments.

I use prairie hay or just grass hay. Straw breaks down too much.
I just keep an eye on it when cleaning kennels. If its wet change it, if its just low I add some.
I clean everything out and wash out the houses in early spring before the fleas come out. I dont use any bedding of any kind in flea season.

Like spini said I just add to it then change out in spring but I use good bright wheat straw

Like has been said. Keep eye on it, especially in front of door. This will get wet from dogs bringing in snow. Pull out if damp or wet, add as needed

Always preferred hay to straw because it holds together in a nest. I do everything same as Spini.

Straw, change if it gets wet and or breaks down. This year I used pine pellets under the straw to absorb excess moisture.

If the hay is settling or flattening down check to make sure its not wet, if it is change it, if not wet add more hay, fluff it up, dog will run around smelling it and eventually make a bed.
My dogs love it when I add new hay, plus a bone to chew on.

I change the hay out monthly.
