I watched my young dog cold trail one for over a 1/2 mile this morning , giving mouth the whole time ( that I cannot stand ) before he jumps it hot . It was so cold the other dog would not go with him . Now they have been running it hot for over 30 minutes .
Story of my life with my one dog, lol. I take the good with the bad, most times it leads to a jump .

Up here in the north east, bloodline from buckshot Mr bill was known for a amazing nose, most from this line can run in the minus 0 degrees, only problem was when scenting conditions where good you would hear them all day popping off, I shouldn't say all, but most of what I had or saw 1st hand.
Most times would lead to a jump, but somedays it could be a rabbit from hours ago. I prefer a tighter mouth , but as long as the dogs hunts hard and produces the rabbit most of the time ill deal with it.

My 4 yo female does this, some days she drives me nuts and babbling the whole time not sure if she is cold nosing or just"lying" just to hear herself bark lol, then there are days she will cold nose till it gets hot then rest of pack joins biggest reason I will keep her she is all hunt, she will hunt all day and night if I let her she will crawl through the thickest brush and briars

Sounds exactly like my female on certain days. Some days not a extra pop from her, $1000 dog, then next day at same spot won't shut up! $50 dog, lol. But she is all hunt, grit etc. I take the good with the bad. My dogs are also family pets, once they are here they stay , unless some major issues. Kennel barking, etc.
I prefer a nice honest mouth dog, won't bark until rabbit is up or close to it.

I renamed my dog . I call him cold trail now . Yesterday I took them to the spot that I saw the fresh bobcat or coyote scat at last week , where they always jump one , but not the last time . He did his cold trail for about an hour and then I helped him jump one . They ran it for about 2 hours before it lost them . I jumped another rabbit when I was walking out to get to the road to watch them . So I guess that predator didn’t get them yet .

I Olé Cold Trail has lost that extra mouth . He will be 2 years old and quit giving all that extra mouth . You don’t hear him now until the rabbit is up . I didn’t think that he would ever lose that extra mouth . He keeps getting better , I hope he keeps improving . I would like to run him with a real good dog his speed and style now .
