Cherry Eye, Maybe???

When a hound has a “cherry eye”, has anyone ever known for it to cover the entire eyeball? I had a pup once that had a “cherry eye”, but it was only in the inside corner of the eye. I came home today to find my young pup with what appeared to be a “cherry eye”, however it was covering the entire eyeball.
Ideas/thoughts please.

The day before this it looked 100% cherry eye in the corner of his eye. I brought him to vet and they said it was infected and wanted to charge me 1300$ to remove his eye and be done with it. From the research I’ve done I fully believe it’s a real bad case of cherry eye. He is on antibiotics now. How wld u suggest I sedate him in order to remove it myself?
Don’t have to sedate him. Just muzzle him. And need a reliable friend that’s capable of holding him still for you while you do it.

if you do it yourself better have something available to cauterize the wound. Small veins might have to be tied off as well. Stitches to close the wound. JMHO

I would go to a couple other vets, maybe cheaper price for the removal. JMHO
I’d get a good veterinarian involved with cherry eye issues. As was already said, if you remove it (tear gland), you run the risk of giving the hound dry eye problems forever. I have seen vets stitch/tack them back into place, thus preserving the gland.

Also, hounds with these problems should be removed from any breeding considerations. I have seen breeders ignore this advice and continually have cherry eye issues for years to come. It’s a hereditary problem.

What have you decided to do about this?
HONESTLY~~ IT MAY NOT BE CHERRY-EYE AT ALL~~~ I HAD ONE LOOKED LIKE THAT--TOOK HIM TO THE VET AND HE ROLLED THE EYELID OUT AND THERE WAS THISTLE BRIARS IN IT----HE CLEANED ALL OF IT OUT---SUTURED THE INNER EYE LIDS AND PUT A STITCH IN THE OUTER EYELID AND IT WAS WELL IN A FEW DAYS-----THINGS ARE NOT ALWAYS AS THEY SEEM

Very true. The pictures don’t look like any cherry eye I have seen. It’s normally just a small swelling of red tissue in the inside corner of the eye.
