I went out for a run with with my male 1 1/2 year old and my 8 month old female. The dogs jumped behind me and went straight away but running it like a rabbit. All the deer races I have heard was nonstop and away in a hurry. This race had a couple of short checks. About 400 yards it made some circles and the dogs lost it for about 5 minutes. When they figured it out it was straight away again. I got nervous and toned the male back. I finally got the female back 5 hours later. She was not wearing a e-collar. I know there is no way to know but does anybody have an opinion? Hopefully the track posted. It started at the truck marker and you can see where the male came out to me on the next road.

Rabbits are breeding here in S. In, wouldn’t surprise me if it wasn’t a buck rabbit either, big run with a few small loops.

I was hoping a buck rabbit but wasn’t sure. I cut off the next road and waited for a deer to cross but never did.

Maybe, especially when it did some circles or it could of been fox/yote checking or Circling it's backtrack? The thing that most sounds like trash is the 1.95 miles from start to finish

Yeah it was a long track we do have a ton of coyote but haven’t run one that a know for sure yet. I was leaning towards fox as a strong possibility.

With that pattern with does breeding looks like a buck rabbit!! They sure make you nervous but without seeing a deer or them running way above rabbit speed I would try to trust my dog if they’ve been trash free rest of season. When they are breeding them bucks will take you out of hearing pretty quick.

These are both new to me. I am just getting back in so I do not trust them other than knowing the didn’t take a deer track that I saw the other day. As a matter of fact it’s the first time they have ran anything without other dogs.

Understand! It takes time to trust a dog. This time of year is tougher I think because of the breeding and traveling bucks but once you can trust them this is the best time of the year to get some long runs.

Jackalope for sure. A jumped deer or yote would straight line that distance with little effort. A fox would zigzag using terrain but mostly in the same direction. You may want to apologize to your pooch.

I had a buck rabbit last year that ran similar to that, that joker covered some country. I seen my rabbit though 4 different times it was a big Ol buck but it made for an awesome morning run. I love running this time a year but if your unsure of your dog’s I guess it would make you a little nervous

In my area ,rabbits have been running like that for over 2 months now. I've never seen it before except in the spring. If not very many rabbits, them buck rabbits will travel pretty far to find the does. They want to run back to their home territory when jumped.

And this is why I love snow, never have to question just look at the tracks😉 could have been a buck rabbit, fox, coyote, who knows even a deer could have run that track or a racoon they pushed out of a brush pile.
