Well, I’ll go ahead and say it since no one else will….albeit second hand knowledge but more than one good source who saw him…and I never hunted with him a day in my life …but from what I have “heard “, D Fred ***** wouldn’t hunt a biscuit…

Will messer. Yea I’m starting to see that I’ve got a little mixed up when it comes to style of dogs. Didn’t really know much when I got the first two. And honestly I don’t really care for them. They hunt, but they are real tall dogs. Thinking of leaning more toward the weir creeks eventually. I think these pups may be a good place to start

I’m not sure who you’re getting your second hand knowledge from but the people I know or have talked to say’s he did. And he earned his field champion title.

I never said he couldn’t run a rabbit, that’s putting words in my mouth, but I’ve heard from MULTIPLE people he didn’t hunt well…some admitted he seemed to throw hunt in his pups but didn’t hunt well himself…

But I never saw the dog run or hunt…

I said I heard that he wouldn’t hunt….search well…not that he couldn’t run it once it got going….surely with your experiences you’ve saw dogs that didn’t hunt or jump rabbits well but trialed decent and ran a good line?

Im talking all around rabbit dog…hunt and jump his own rabbit then circle it back to you….so where’s the confusion here on what I said?

I do see this dog piled up and stacked up behind many dog owners pedigrees.....Now yawll got me curious?

So whats the verdict on this D-Freds Sam-bo dog?

Did he Hunt or Not?
Hum…I’m not qualified to speak about the dog as I never saw the dog run or hunt FIRST HAND, and admittedly am going off what I was told from second hand sources…

Maybe you could help us out here? As long you’ve been around there’s a good chance you saw him, hunted with him possibly?

Theirs no confusion here sipsey. Yes I have definitely seen hounds that hunt but have less hunt than others. And yes I have definitely seen hounds that can run one once the rabbit is up. ( but that’s not what your post said . ) if that’s what you’re talking about confusion? I just responded to your post that the people I know or have talked to said he had hunt. Now to what degree I do not know. But you said ( you had second hand knowledge that says he wouldn’t hunt a biscuit.) that’s what my response was to. If a hound won’t hunt a biscuit that’s pretty sad. People like Gwinn Ethridge, harvey Templet, Jr. Woods, even Mr. John Taylor on here says he did. I personally never seen him run myself. Although I do have him in the pedigree’s of some of my hounds. And they hunt. Actually they hunt very well. Seems like every popular hound that was purchased for good money from Louisiana or Mississippi gets labeled by some as a cull .people have said same thing about cotton country blue eagle. But the brother or sister they bred to and have in their hounds pedigree was much better hound. 😂😂😂

Instead of asking Mr. Gwinn Ethridge, Mr.Harvey Templet, Mr.Jr. Woods, even Mr. John Taylor.

Why don't you ask Sam-bo's owner?

Asking and taking without Seeing and Knowing is what got us here.
I have talked to Ed Sankey. He owned him too. But never talked to Danny frederic or Randy Accardo. Didn’t see the need to as d Fred’s ***** was a good ways back. We was talking weir creek Pedigree’s and the hounds in the pedigrees. I’ve not had an issue with a hound that I was specifically trying to pinpoint where it came from to dig deeper and try to reach out to others.

that’s exactly what I MEANT…I didn’t question his running abilities or anything other than his search and that’s it…if he made FC, especially back then, then obviously the dog ran well at the trials he won or placed in

Right. I wasn’t saying you was wrong or right. When someone is talking about a hound that is in a pedigree of mine. And I’m semi knowledgeable or have heard things opposite of what someone is saying it sparks my interest. So I’m all ears. That’s all.

Sipsey, let us know what you find out when you talk to the gentleman because I have always heard the exact same thing about him from several different old timers.
Thanks
