On this site a lot of abbreviations are used and I am not sure what they all mean. For this post, If you can think of an abbreviation will you post about it? Explain it? (Example SPO, UGBF, Nation Field trial abbreviations and the like). Even FC, i know what it stands for but what qualifies a dog to be termed FC. This would help us new beaglers out.....At least it would this ignorant one.

Spo=Small Pack Option
ubgf= United Beagle Gundog Federation.

SPO is a type of AKC field trial, ubgf is a federation that runs spo trials. There is also Deep South, Midwest and probably some others.

FC field champion is different in each format, but in AKC License trials they have to have so many wins and beat so many other hounds which gives them points.

registries:
AKC American Kennel Club
ARHA/NKC American Rabbit Hound Assoc / National Kennel Club
UKC United Kennel Club
PKC professional Kennel Club

go on line and look up the registry and federation's they all have web sites for more details.

Years ago if you saw FC in front of a hounds name it could have been won in traditional brace, gun dog brace, small pack option, etc. In order to let you know how the title was won they changed some of it. To become a SPO FC you need to win a minimum of three trials and have 120 points. If your dog wins a trial with 30 dogs entered in that class it gets 30 of the 120 points needed. If it places second it get 15 points, and so on.

FCGD - Field champion gun dog.
NGBC - National Gun Dog Brace Champion
NSPC - National Small Pack Champion

If you get the H&H magazine then look on the stud dog ads. They will give you some insight on this. If you don't get H&H but would like to then send me your name and address and I can get you started. If you have a child who is interested then give me that child's name along with your address. Kids love to look at the magazine, see the pictures, and really love to see their name on it.

Which beagle has won the most trials?? Anyone know the answer of that?
Johnathan, I don't know the answer. I am sure that years ago, some would win many Field trials before they were retired. These days most are retired from Field Trialing once they finish for their title. In some instances some are still run to achieve the High Point title in their association and federation. Some have complained that in their opinion a dog should be retired from trialing once they earn their title, claiming it is unsportsman and one should retire their dog to give others a chance to finish for their title. It has been brought up to AKC for discussion. I do know several dogs that did continue to run for the High Point award once finished for their Title. How unfortunate would it be for a dog to perform well all trial season and not earn the High Point awards just because they were forced to be retired because they finished quickly during their campaign. FCGD Mike's Bayou Current Little Joe was one of those who finished quickly and deserved the High Point awards in the Deep South Gundog Federation and Southern States Gundog Association, but if he had been forced to retire from trialing he could of lost those deserving awards . He finished his career with a 2nd. place and 6 wins in a row, earning him his Field Champion title as well as High Point Hound in the Deep South and Southern States.

FCGD Mike's Bayou Current Little Joe was a great dog and I never got tired of trying to follow him and keep up and see the amazing things he did while on the ground with other Great dogs.

Joe was an amazing animal to witness doing his work! I mean really. When you strapped on chaps, gloves and boots you the human was fixing to get a lesson you probably never got before. You were fixing to see some things you probably never seen done before. Joe was about to show you what a real beagle hounds was capable of doing!

Joe was one of the hounds I was privileged it follow and witness the spectacle. I always got chills and goose bumps watching him do the things he did while moving forward at all times.

Man the things he could pull off in a race with other GREAT hounds on the ground over and over day in and day out every single time down...WOW......nothing short of Amazing!!!

I and many others that had the pleasure of going with him to the field learned a lot from FCGD Mike's Bayou Current Little Joe. Yes we did.

I will pay to watch a great hound teach me how it's done.

Today in AKC trials I am told there was a difference between regular FC and FCGD status in Northeast and Midwest trials not sure about deep southern trails but FCGD stood for a Field champion Gun dog that been shot over during trials...Another I heard that 2 statuses are the same, As the old FC status made it hard to determine what format the dog was finished out but some argue in some formats they didn’t shoot over the dogs ...
